The Castaways Hotel and Casino, located in Las Vegas, operated from 1963-1987. The outside had lava rock and several tikis to greets guests to their “enchanting Polynesian holiday resort.“ The Castaways also had a 1500 gallon aquarium that had showgirls swimming in it (rumored to be sans bikini top), the Kon Tiki lounge and the Samoa Room which featured up and coming comedians like Redd Foxx. In 1967 the Castaways was sold to Howard Hughes for $3,000,000 and continued to operate until 1987 when Vegas hotelier Steve Wynn bought it, razed it and then 2 years later opened up The Mirage.
