In December of 1959, the South Pacific Polynesian Restaurant, located in Hallandale, Florida, opened their doors and immersed their guests in a total South Seas atmosphere. The lush tropical gardens, splashing waterfalls and the soft flickering flames of native torches around the grounds and interior along with the Cantonese menu, brought the Polynesian experience to life.
There were several bars, including the Lanai Bar & Lounge and The Garden of Seven Pleasures where Sarong clad maidens would serve you their signature cocktails like The Headhunter or the Pineapple Paradise for only $2.50 each.
The restaurant closed its doors in May 1975, but it’s competitor, the Mai Kai that opened in 1956, still exists today.
