Located in in the Heathman Hotel, The Aloha Room, hosted by Harry E. Heathman was a stand out in Portland Oregon. Known for a dominating mural of King Kamehameha at a hukilau, the turquoise room featured museum quality South Seas treasures that Mr. Heathman acquired during his travels. Cocktails were served in exotic containers, and for $1.50 you could sip on a Fog Cutter, or your party of 4 could enjoy a Scorpion for $3.00. The menu offered a selection of curried, Hawaiian and Polynesian dishes also served creatively. Heathman had red Anthirium and Ginger flown in each week from the Islands, together with Vanda orchids which were presented to the ladies.
The hotel, which was restored in 1984, is located in a popular area of downtown Portland, and received a slew of press as several steamy scenes in the "50 Shades of Grey" novel take place there.
