Glenn Billingsley opened the Outrigger in January 1960 in the well known Surf & Sand Hotel in Laguna Beach. It was one of several restaurants owned by him. The others included the Hawaiian Reef in Chatsworth, the Golden Bull and Jamaica Inn, both in the world famous Hotel Corona Del Mar.
This modern but ornate restaurant featured South Sea Island cuisine plus steaks for those who preferred American. Glenn also brought in Hawaiian entertainment to give the tropical atmosphere an extra authentic touch. Glenn was the first husband of Barbara Billingsley of "Leave It to Beaver" fame.
