The Diamond Head Restaurant is an example of classic Hawaiian kitsch. Located in Saugus Massachusetts, Diamond Head was located on Route 1 which has been described as “the cheesiest road in America.” Diamond Head described itself as a Hawaiian American restaurant with a full tiki cocktail menu, nightly entertainment, erupting volcanoes, and hanging rattan chairs. It was definitely more lowbrow than “Luau”, but regulars have fond memories of its iconic huge triangle entrance, good service, and good times eating MSG laden Chinese washed down with Mai Tais, Fog Cutters and Scorpions.
