Trade Winds opened in March of 1964 in Wagon Wheel, Oxnard CA, a mid century roadside location off the 101. Trade Winds checked off all the tiki boxes: an A framed entrance, themed rooms, a Polynesian floor show, lagoon, Samoa hut and hand carved tikis.
Trade Winds has a colorful history. In the late 70s, for a brief time, it was a Don the Beachcomber, and after that became Coconut Joe’s Warehouse, Hawaiian Cowboy, and an ice cream parole, before being demolished in 1984.
