Hanalei Hotel- San Diego, CA

$ 28.00

Opened in 1964, The Islands was a Polynesian themed restaurant located inside the Hanalei Hotel in San Diego. It featured a waterfall, float lights, bamboo, Polynesian masks and carvings and some tikis salvaged from Steve Crane's Luau in Beverly Hills. Couldn't you go for a Tiki Hanalei cocktail with the "Ahi in the Po'o" for $1.50 right about now? Or, do you consider yourself brave enough to have the Fog Cutter for $1.75?

The iconic Hanalei Hotel sign was an excellent example of Googie signage but when the hotel was purchased by Best Western they removed it to make it more basic.

The Islands restaurant was gutted in 2006 but there are still some outrigger boats in the lobby along with tikis, carvings and Polynesian masks around the hotel.
