The Islands - Phoenix AZ The “Polynesian Paradise in the Heart of Phoenix” known as The Islands operated from 1957 until late ’70s.The Enchanting South Seas Atmosphere was broken up into four rooms: The Tiki Room, the Tapa Bar, the Waterfall Room which had nightly dancing, and if you wanted something more intense, they had the Cannibal Room.The restaurant featured two curved A-frames covered in thatch and two large rootball tikis at the entrance.
The Kona Kai - Kansas City, MO The Kona Kai located at the Plaza Inn, Kansas City, MO was known for relaxed Polynesian dining, an island vacation with authentic foods, exotic beverages and a beautiful decorated South Seas atmosphere. At the bar, you would have enjoyed Joe’s own creation, the Slightly Bitten cocktail for $1.50.It contained Trinidad rum and tropical fruits topped with an Aloha orchid.
The Bali Hai - Ports of Call - Toronto The Bali Hai Room at the Ports of Call restaurant in Toronto Ontario was one of 5 themes inside the restaurant. It also featured the Caesar's Room, the Dicken's Room, the Last Chance Saloon, and the Ballon Rouge. The restaurant operated like that for only 12 years, 1963-1975, before the themed rooms were removed and the restaurant was renamed The Ports.
Aku-Tiki Room - Kewanee, IL In 1932 the Andris’ Wanee Farm Restaurant was built among 80 acres of farmland just south of Kewanee Illinois. Glen Andris bought the farm in 1953 and added the Aku-Tiki Room in 1967 to be managed by his wife, Carol. The restaurant operated until 2007.
